about U9
Our U9 teams are softball teams and their matches are organised around the Sunday morning summer training. This is part of our U6-U9 softball programme and the introduction to cricket for many children.
The emphasis is on developing cricketing and physical skills in a fun environment whilst allowing children the space to problem solve. It coaches both generic and then progressively cricket specific skills. Starting with educating them in the very basic generic skills – hitting, throwing, movement, balance. We encourage them to have a go, be positive, and don’t worry if they get things wrong.
Whilst the emphasis is on fun, we do gradually increase the amount of technical coaching as and when players develop, and take their first steps into playing matches in the U9 softball teams. This then dovetails into our U10 hardball programme, with a transition to hardball group, the most proficient players will play some U10 hardball matches on Sunday mornings.
